On 9th September, Mark Runiewicz raised £350.00 for Anthony Nolan by taking part in his first Great North Run –an annual Half Marathon running from South Shields to Newcastle, and something Mark had always wanted to do. This money will go towards saving the lives of people with blood cancer and blood disorders.  In order to enter the Great North Run, Mark needed to have raised £350.00, which he did with his TAEFL team when they all donned their Green and Black T-shirts back on the 3rd June and took part in and supported The Great Midlands Fun Run (8.5 mile run around the streets of Sutton Coldfield).

In preparation for the Great North Run, Mark and Mary had the pleasure of escorting their friend Blind Dave to Newcastle for the event. As it was Dave’s 13th time to take part in this run, he knew exactly where to stay, what to do regarding preparations and how to wind up, naughtily teasing innocent members of the public when they didn’t realise that he is in fact blind. A lady afterwards in the bar happened to ask Dave what time he did, and he responded by saying that he couldn’t see the clock! The unsuspecting woman had a shock when she realised the reason why he couldn’t see the clock!

As Dave recommended, the staff in the Premier Inn were friendly and helpful but much to Mary’s dismay, they  informed us too late that we just missed Giovanni and Faye Tozer, who had been practising their steps that day for Strictly Come Dancing!

Mark would like to thank everyone who participated.
